Let your imagination flow down to the river landing, where the waters of Village Creek gently converge with the Mississippi River near Lansing, Iowa. Imagine a place once bustling with clanking tools and shouts of fishermen hauling in the day's catch; the low, mournful sound of the steamboat whistle echoing through the steep bluffs and along the sacred, earthen mounds. Towering glaciers passed around this very spot—scraping and scouring all but this land, a breathtaking region known as the Driftless Area.
Here, at this very place, a new chapter is about to begin. The cultural, recreational, natural, and historical significance of the Driftless Area will be the primary focus of new interpretive exhibits at the Driftless Area Education and Visitor Center. Featuring three levels and 10,000 sq. ft., the new building will be nestled beneath limestone bluffs with scenic river views.
