Grady’s Superhero Run – Knotty Marie’s, Dorchester
Event: Grady’s Superhero Run, a family friendly 5k and kid’s fun run. The run will be followed with a bounce house, kids’ games, prize giveaways and a DJ. The event will be hosted in the Knotty Marie yard.
Purpose: This is a memorial run for Grady Lundgren Hammel. Grady was an ambitious, loving, energetic boy. He loved agriculture, he loved Dorchester. Grady was diagnosed with a rare NUT protein carcinoma and fought hard with the help of his family and community for 13 courageous months. Grady passed away on December 29, 2022. Grady’s mom Dana fondly and tearfully remembers her boy every day. We noted that he fought this terrible disease with immense support from family and the community. This support has been very humbling. Grady’s family received donations and support from the entire tri state area, some groups we had never even heard about! Benefits were held to help and raise money and awareness for Grady. Dana wants to give back to the community, raise awareness for NUT protein carcinoma, and create a fun event to memorialize her son. The money raised with this fun run will be divided between a family experiencing a medical issue, and to help establish The Grady Lundgren-Hammel memorial scholarship.
Goal: To raise continued awareness of cancer, and that it affects the young and the old. That no one needs to fight this alone and that we as a community will stand together.
