Waukon is the county seat of Allamakee County and is located in the heart of scenic northeast Iowa landscapes. The population is around 4,000 with a labor survey documenting the availability of 2,800 persons for employment.

The city is at the headwaters of six trout streams and is in the driftless area of timbered hills and scenic landscape. The natural setting provides ample opportunity for outdoor recreation and scenic home sites.

Waukon enjoys a blend of modern technology and friendly shops with unsurpassed natural beauty, and has many active civic/industrial improvement programs in place. The community is home to one golf course, a remarkable wellness facility, a 78-acre city park with wooden playground, hiking and biking trails, and aquatic center. There are churches of many denominations in the city and some of those church buildings are among the city’s most impressive architecture. The local high school has facilities to use the State fiber optics cable system. Waukon has four full service banks, two local radio stations, a disc golf course, an amphitheater that hosts Music in the Park nights in the summer, a weekly newspaper and a municipal airport. This community is the home to Veterans Memorial Hospital & Clinics (Clinics are located in both Postville and Waukon), as well as, Gundersen Health Systems Clinic.

Allamakee county adjoins the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, providing proximity to industries in these states that have needs to relocate.

Small town atmosphere sells Waukon, with the friendly area merchants and residents making everyone feel welcome. The cost of living is low and the quality of living is high.
