Allamakee County Economic Development & Tourism (ACED) is happy to announce Hall Roberts’ Son as the 2023 Cloy Kuhse Positive Impact Award Winner! This announcement was made at ACED’s Annual Meeting, which was held at Waterville Community Center on Thursday, October 12, 2023.

Larry Moore, Postville City Council Member, shared his nomination with the audience. Brenda Hackman, Vice President ACED Board shared comments by the second nominator Crystal Duffy, Postville Library/Postville Community Heart & Soul. General Manager Chris Hoffert accepted the award and shared Hall Roberts’ Son core values with the attendees.

Excerpt from nomination:

“Hall Roberts’ Son started business in Postville in 1864 and has been a cornerstone of Postville and Allamakee County for many generations. The family-owned business started as a general mercantile which featured coal, animal pelts and steel but through the years has become a wholesale distributor of agricultural products serving hundreds of customers in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. Hall Roberts’ Son is a progressive, diverse business who adapts their product line in our ever-changing agricultural environment.”

Excerpt from nomination:

“They are financial supporters of the Big Four Fair, churches, missions, N.E. Iowa Shriners, Helping Services of Northeast Iowa, the public library, the Childcare, the DARE program, Dollars for Scholars, and the arts and sports programs to name a few. They are instrumental in supporting the Food Pantry in Postville. They pay for the heat and electricity and do not charge the food pantry rent for the use of their building for this worthy cause.”

This annual award was created to highlight and recognize a business that is making a positive impact in Allamakee County, as well as, to honor the memory of Cloy Kuhse and his vision. Hall Roberts’ Son now joins the list of annual award recipients including Welsh’s Village Farm & Home, Veterans Memorial Hospital & Clinic, Shep’s Riverside Bar & Grill of Lansing, WW Homestead Dairy, Growing Bear Daycare & PreSchool of Waukon, New Albin Savings Bank, Waukon Dental, Mike Ferring Construction of Waukon, TASC of Waukon, Wuennecke’s Meat Market of New Albin, and Norplex Micarta of Postville.
