A Midwest location is ideal for any industry which could take advantage of centralized US communications, shipping and receiving, or servicing. Northeast Iowa, home to Allamakee County, is also central to several major US cities.

Goods and services can be transported on the scenic Mississippi River as it winds along the 36-mile east edge of Allamakee County. North America's largest river connects the three states of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. It serves as a major waterway for barge shipping. Northeast Iowa is a centralized Midwest location. Businesses have overnight delivery access to more than one-fourth of the U.S. population. There is one- to two-day transport by truck to 11 major U.S. cities. Railroad spurs are available in Harpers Ferry, Lansing, New Albin, and Postville. The Central Time Zone helps managers communicate with the East and West Coasts by phone or fax.

Major Waterways/Barges

The Mississippi River has a navigation channel with a minimum depth of 9 feet. Barges can transport on the river from mid-March to mid-November.

Rail Transportation

Railspur possibilities exist in the communities of New Albin, Postville, and Lansing.

A public airport is located in Waukon. It has a runway of approximately 2500 feet. Commercial service is available in nearby LaCrosse.
